Has India arrived on the global map? In a first step towards becoming superpower, India can displace the United States as the global software superpower by 2020, a report by IT research firm Gartner has said. The report says that to become numero uno in the software field, India will have to maintain competitive advantage, build infrastructure and soft skill development.

The Indian IT industry needs high growth of economy, primary education revamp, high quality labour pool and increased global geopolitical influence in the country for the growth to sustain,the report suggests.

And here is what else India requires to reach pinnacle in the world’s software market:

* Investment in education needed for supporting growth in the software.
* Quality graduate students in sufficient number to meet the needs of the domestic and global export market.
* India also needs world-class infrastructure and innovative business-centered workers.
* Improvement in infrastructure led by revamped policies to attract global foreign direct investments.

Currently, the US is considered the leader in IT software, with the country boasting of software companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Hewlett Packard and Cisco.
