Arunachal launches IT project for dissemination of info

SWAN to e-connect 15 district headquarters and 46 blocks

With the mission to bring governance to the door steps of the people, Arunachal Pradesh has launched an innovative IT project in the state to disseminate information to the people in a faster way.

The ambitious Project, Arunachal Pradesh State Wide Area Network(APSWAN), was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu here yesterday.

Besides, video conferencing facilities, the SWAN project is set to improve the functioning of the government by faster electronic transfer of information in the form of voice, video and data.

It will also help in effective implementation of all e-governance projects and would be a great support for e-tendering process followed by various departments in the state in the recent times.

?This advance telecommunication infrastructure will be used for exchange of data and other type of information in this remotely located state?, Khandu said while speaking on the occasion and appreciated the State Council for Science and Technology for the initiative.

He exuded hope that the new project would play a pivotal role in overall development of the State through good communication.

?In the backdrop of the poor road connectivity covering only 40 per cent in the state, the SWAN with its coverage till date to 15 district headquarters and 46 blocks will provide e-connectivity in the remote areas where there is no connectivity and help strengthening e- governance?, the chief minister asserted.

While dwelling with the project?s benefits, he said that the project would help the state government to disseminate its lans, policy and programmes to the people residing in remote and inaccessible areas in the quickest form by maintaining complete efficiency, reliability and accountability.

?With the digitalization of database and government records in future, a common man will be able to obtain important documents like ration card, inner line permit, driving license and land records without any hassles and at considerably low cost?, Parliamentary Secretary for Science, Technology & IT, Jomde Kena said.

Kena said that SWAN would cater to the communication requirements of all departments at the national, state and block level.

It would make the lives of the people easier for even the people living in the remotest part of the state.
