Police were probing whether the e-mail of Indian Mujaheedin claiming responsibility for the Jama Masjid firing was sent through a proxy server located in a foreign country to hoodwink security agencies here.

"We are looking into this angle. We are investigating it," a senior police official said tonight.

Police had earlier tracked the e-mail sent to several media organisations after the incident on Sunday to a Mumbai suburban town of Borivali. It was sent using a Tata mobile phone procured using fake documents.

The Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra Police was handed over two addresses in Borivali and nearby Malad used for procuring two Tata SIM cards. The names of two women were used to procure the cards, sources in Maharashtra Police said.

Though police reached the addresses, the sources said, they could not find the women. "The names used to procure the SIM cards were fictitious," a source said.

Soon after the firing near Jama Masjid on Sunday, in which two Taiwanese nationals were injured, an e-mail was sent to various media houses, threatening to carry out attacks during the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, investigators also said that the pressure cooker used to prepare a explosive device that went off inside a car near the firing spot on the same day was bought from Sadar Bazar area.
