South Western Railways today stole a march over its sister zonal railways in launching an audio and video system in non-Shatabdi express trains.

South Western Railway General Manager Kuldip Chaturvedi inaugurated the on board audio-video infotainment system in Chamunmdi Express that runs between Mysore and Bangalore.

Divisional Manager B B Verma said under the facility each bogie will have colour LCD screens and audio systems through which music albums and films of all languages including educative wild life documentary films will be shown.

The train is fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) which will display information about the location of the train, arrival and departure timings and the speed at which the train is running both in the train and platforms for the benefit of passengers.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu said this system will be extended to the Tipu Express (Mysore-Bangalore) Bangalore-Dharwad Inter-city Express and Bangalore-Shimoga Express, during the project's second phase.

Sadhu said at present this facility exists in Shatabdi train plying between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
