At a time when small and medium Information Technology companies are grappling with about 30 per cent rise in costs, West Bengal IT industry has something to cheer about.
"Three neighbouring countries, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan have expressed interest about West Bengal IT industry and want to know the capabilities," Nasscom head (east) Suporno Moitro said here today on the sidelines of a Public Relations Society of India (Kolkata) event.
"We are preparing a skill matrix and it would be completed in a month's time," he said.
This is the first time the neighbouring countries have expressed interest about West Bengal IT sector.
Due to withdrawal of STPI benefit for the IT sectors along with other cost pressure, the impact on the small and medium IT companies would be as high as 30 per cent, Moitro said.
Meanwhile, IT exports from the Eastern region is likely to maintain at least last year's growth of 6.02 per cent.
"In 2009-10, total export was Rs 6700 crore which is 6.02 per cent rise over the year before but figures for this year is yet to arrive but we hope to maintain at least growth of the previous year," Moitro said.
