Geo-spatial technology could play a vital role along with information technology and space science in accelerating the economic development of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Friday said.

Addressing a seminar in Dehra Dun on 'Geo-Enabling Uttarakhand: Opportunities and the way forward', Bahuguna said with the help of statistics obtained from geo-spatial analysis, problems related to the environment and the economy in the ecologically-sensitive state could be resolved.

It could also play an important role in natural disaster management, urban development, land reform and many other areas including security in a border state like Uttarakhand, he said.

In his visual presentation on Geo-Spatial technique, Rajesh Mathur of FICCI Task Force said it could be vital in dealing with challenges like environmental pollution and contraction of natural resources.

Also present on the occasion were Secretary Science and Technology RC Pathak, Director General FICCI Arbind Prasad and Director Uttarakhand Space Application Centre M M Kimothi.
