Government mulling Rs 2,167 Cr proposal to network employment exchanges

Plan for e-connection of employment exchanges

PTI | October 30, 2010

A detailed project report (DPR) has been finalised for connecting employment exchanges across the country through an e-governance initiative to be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 2,167 crore.

The project will enable job seekers to register online from any employment exchange across the country, apart from seeking guidance and counselling.

"The DPR has been finalised and the process for obtaining further approval has also been initiated," said sources in the Labour and Employment Ministry.

A web portal will also be developed, making employment related services available on a single window and acting as a store house of information on skilled persons.

Sources said the National Institute for Smart Governance, which has been appointed as the principal consultant, has already completed studies related to the project in the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Assam and benchmarking study in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The project will be implemented in all the states simultaneously in 22 months from the date of its execution.

The Government has projected an estimated Rs 2,167 crore over a period of five years for its implementation.

One of the key benefits of the mission would be online data submission by all the employers and use on a real time basis for providing employment opportunities to job seekers and meeting the demand of the employers, sources said.

They said availability of data on real time basis will also help both the Centre as well as the state governments plan desirable policy intervention.
