GN Bureau | April 5, 2010

The government seems to have woken up to the need for an inclusion policy in information-and-communication technolgy and electronics (ICTE) and e-governance for the disbaled.

The government has invited suggestions from the public on a draft national policy for electronic accessibility (NPEA) which will be working towards removing barriers in ICTE usage for persons with disabilities. In a notice issued by the department of information technolgy, the government has stated that the policy will seek to end all discrmination with accesible ICTE while recognizing and providing for the needs of the disabled.

While prevailing standards in the domain of ICTE for the disabled will set the tone for accessibility in India, the government has proposed the formation of an empowered committee to guide and monitor the implementation of the policy.
