Himachal police goes hi-tech

Complaints through SMS a hit in state

PTI | November 3, 2010

Himachal Pradesh police would go hi-tech to make its functioning more transparent and efficient for quick delivery system, D S Minhas, Director General of Police (DGP) said today.

A series of measures like video graphing the interrogation of the accused, imparting advanced technical training to Investigating Officers (IOs), educating them about forensic and legal aspects to facilitate investigation in a scientific manner will be taken, Minhas said.

Videography of interrogation would have a deterrent effect on IOs as the record would be available for review by senior officers in case of any complaint of using third degree methods, he added.

The department is receiving about 15 to 20 SMS daily from various districts for lodging complaints, he said adding the response of the youths towards new system was tremendous, especially from girls who were earlier shy of registering complaints.
