Idea Cellular has said it has emerged as the No.1 operator of choice under mobile number portability (MNP) scheme in Andhra Pradesh.

The Aditya Birla Group cellphone firm clocked net gain of 58,196 under MNP in the state as on June 8, Idea said in a statement in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

At an all-India level, Idea reported net gain of 6,87,602 to emerge at the top spot, the company said.

Net gain clocked by a mobile operator is the difference between the port-in and port-out number. MNP allows customers to switch operators without the hassle of changing their mobile numbers.

Post-MNP launch pan-India early this year, Idea continues to be the top choice of mobile consumers in Andhra Pradesh, where it is a major player with over 82 lakh subscribers, according to the company.

"Idea took the lead in making consumers aware about MNP through a series of ads highlighting its pan-India network offering seamless connectivity across the length and breadth of the country," the statement added.
