Issue of using technology in court orders rests with admin: HC

PIL was filed by Unique Juris Forum, an advocates-run NGO

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said the issue regarding use of modern technology to communicate court orders regarding bail and acquittals can be taken up only by its administrative side.

A division bench of Justices D D Sinha and V K Tahilramani directed the Registrar (Legal and Research) to place the matter before the administrative side which comprises Chief Justice and four other senior judges.

The bench was hearing a PIL filed by Unique Juris Forum, an NGO run by advocates, stating that after the court passes an order releasing an accused on bail or acquitting an accused, it takes weeks for the order to be sent to the jail and for the accused to be released.

"All these decisions are to be taken by the administrative side of high court. Registrar to put up the matter before the admin side," Justice Sinha said.

The court also directed for a report prepared by National Informatics Centre (NIC) on the feasibility of having court orders sent to jail through internet to be placed before the administrative side.

The matter has been adjourned till October 17.
