IT ministry proposes electronic dev fund

The ministry proposed incentives in setting up of around 200 electronic manufacturing centres

The ministry of communications and information technology has proposed to create an electronic development fund (EDF) under the national policy of electronics to promote innovations, research and development and commercialisation of products.

Minister for communications and IT, Sachin Pilot, proposed the idea in Rajya Sabha yesterday saying that the fund would primarily be used in the sectors of electronic system design and manufacturing, nanelectronics and IT by providing apprpriate funding to the industryor academic institutions.

He further proposed incentives in setting up of around 200 electronic manufacturing centres. “The support is intended to facilitate setting up of greenfield EMCs and upgradation of brownfield EMCs,” said Pilot.
