Move to enhance services rendered by online blood bank

In a move to enhance services rendered by online blood bank, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has presented 25 laptops and 25 internet data cards to blood bank doctors of the Government Medical College hospital in Chennai.

Operations of blood banks present in the State are monitored by online portal www.tngovbloodbank.in which provides information of available blood units in State blood banks, details of blood donations camp among others, a state government release said.

Besides, those individuals interested in voluntary blood donation may also e-register in the website,it said.

As part of stepping up services of the website,the laptops purchased by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society and Tamil Nadu State Blood Transfusion Council, at a cost of Rs five lakh, were presented to the blood bank doctors on November 22, it said.

The release said there were 274 government recognised blood banks in Tamil Nadu and last year the State collected 7.11 lakh blood units from voluntary blood donation camps.
