In a bid to improve the law and order situation, the Kanpur Police has set-up an account for itself at the social-networking site 'Facebook' for immediate redressal of grievances and to get better feedback on department functioning.

The profile, created by DIG Mutha Ashok Jain, will have a separate page for citizens where they can register complaints and seek immediate action.

"The facebook account was created in order to get maximum feedback from citizens on their problems and for improvement in the policing functions," Jain told PTI.

A police team, led by a DCP-level officer, will soon be formed to update the account page and address grievances regarding law and order situation in Kanpur, he said.

Citizens can also register their complaints against corrupt officials without identifying themselves. Action will be taken against the accused officials only after an enquiry, he said, adding, the page will also have updates on latest events in the city.

Apart from the events, the page will feature updates on activities of the traffic police and traffic diversions, Jain said.

The DIG said the police was also planning to post photographs of wanted criminals on this page so that they may be traced faster.
