Election Commissioner Neela Satyanarayan has dubbed e-voting as a distant dream for Maharashtra saying it involves huge technical support and the state was not equipped for it yet.

Satyanarayan was speaking to reporters after reviewing the civic poll preparations for the Kalyan-Dombivili Muncipal Corporation elections scheduled for the end of this month.

"The Election Commission wants to try out e-voting for Kalyan and Kolhapur civic elections but it involves a lot of spade work and technical support which is not yet complete," she said here.

Also, there are a number of security issues which are being looked into.

Satyanarayan said the Election Commission was taking support from various political parties and experts to execute this concept at least in the near future.

"Various teams and experts in the field are working on the project and help is being sought from those involved in the development and implementation of systems for e-voting," the state Election Commissioner said.

If the concept is introduced, it will involve a lot of training for the staff, citizens and the political parties.

A blue print for it is under preparation and once ready, it will be discussed, tested and put to use but not before the next polls, she added.

She also pointed out that the experiment of e-voting did not bear good results in Gujarat and "we do not not want to take any chances here."
