Mumbaikars can soon log on to the internet to post their grievances and suggestions with regard to traffic woes.

The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra government to set up websites for the recently formed high powered committee and zonal sub-committees to address the city's traffic problems within two weeks.

On June 6, the state government had formed a high powered committee and zonal sub-committees comprising of several officials from the transport department and traffic police. Committees were formed as per high court directions passed in May this year.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Nitin Jamdar was hearing a public interest litigation filed by the Bombay Bar Association seeking strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations.

"The government shall develop websites for these committees within two weeks. These shall enable citizens to submit their grievances, complaints and suggestions. The sub-committees shall look into them," the bench directed.

The high powered committee has been directed to submit its report to the court by September 3. The court has also directed the state government to submit an affidavit on appointment of head constables and constables in the traffic police and upgradation of CCTVs in major traffic junctions in the city.

The affidavit will also have to be filed by September 3. The court has directed the committee to include the general manager of BEST as its member.
