PTI | September 9, 2010

Spectra Logic, a leading data storage player, yesterday introduced an advanced enterprise tape library that meets demanding archive and backup requirement while saving customers upto 30 per cent of their initial captial investements and 15 to 20 per cent on annual recurring operational expenses

The Spectra T-Finity library offers scaling to more than 45 petabytes in a single library and to more than 180 petabytes in a single, unified library complex, Nicholas Harper, VP, International, Spectra Logic told media here.

The T-Finity library is targeted for use in data intensive environments such as large enterprise IT, federal, high performance computing and media/entertainment.

It enables customers to consolidate multiple legacy libraries, reduce initial capital investments, control ongoing operational expense and ensure investment protection with scalability to meet long-term data growth requirements.

T-Finity provides high availability for 24x7x365 operations, the highest storage density available in the market and high speed peformacne to handle sustained high transaction volumes.

"These capabalities are ideal to meet requirement of organisations archiving high volume, media-rich data such as research, bio-tech, oil and gas, seismic imaging, surveillance, video, media and entertainment and financial applications" he said.

The highlights of Spectra T-Finity is that at 72 tetrabytes per square foot, it provides upto 70 per cent higher density than the competition, scalable with almost 200 per cent more capacity and slots in a single library. It could scale to more than 30,000 slots in a ingle library and 120,000 slots in a single library complex. It could scale capacity by adding frames non-disruptively.

The tape library uses half or less power per unit of data stored compared to competitors. As the only enterprise-class libabry with single management interface, the T-Finity uses Spectra's blue scale software to simplfy adminsitration, configuration, security and local and remote reporting

The US-based firm was eyeing the Indian market and "hoped to invest in India in line with business growth". The firm plans to add headcount as business demands mainly in sales and engineering, he said.

It was also keen in engaging with the government as business grows. It hopes to bag 10 installations in a year. It was keen in focussing on Aerospace, Oil and Gas, Media Entertainment, financial sector in India.
