TEPC, the business promotion body of the Department of Telecom, has received confirmation from companies in 11 countries to participate in the buyer-seller meet that aims to promote India-made equipment.

"We have got confirmation from approximately 30 buyers from 11 countries to participate in the meet and consider the purchase of telecom equipment produced in India," said a DoT official.

He added that the companies include telecom operators, value added service providers and equipment vendors from Kenya, Nigeria, Mexico, Colombia, South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Vietnam and Canada.

The meet organised by Telecom Export Promotion Council is to be held on December 6. It will be inaugurated by Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora.

The official said the meet is expecting to gain more traction as the government's recent policy is creating favourable environment for domestic telecom equipment.

Recently, the government unveiled the draft of National Telecom Policy 2011 in which it has given weightage to indigenous equipment and sourcing of components.

"Promote the domestic production of telecom equipment to meet 80 per cent Indian telecom sector demand through domestic manufacturing with a value addition of 65 per cent by the year 2020," said the policy draft.
