A Tripura minister today claimed that his e-mail account has been hacked and contacts were sent mails which said that he is in Cyprus and requires a loan of USD 2,000.

Minister for Industries and Commerce Jitendra Chowdhury claimed all his contacts in the address book, including top bureaucrats, received an email from [email protected] saying "I am in Cyprus. I need a loan of USD 2,000 and I will explain the matter and refund the money back to you immediately after I get back on Friday."

Complaining about the cyber crime, Chowdhury said that he was on a short visit to New Delhi recently, but was very much in the country when his hotmail account was hacked.

The minister came to know about the crime when he started to receive calls from his contacts regarding the e-mail.

Chowdhury then contacted the New Delhi-based Cyber Crime Cell yesterday and also referred the case to the state director general of police.
