Incidences of stone-pelting were witnessed in Aurangabad and Jalna districts during a bandh called by members of a minority community to protest objectionable religious pictures being posted on social networking site Facebook, police said.

However, there were no reports of anyone getting hurt, they said. Demanding the arrest of the person who posted the pictures, protesters allegedly hurled stones at the vehicles of a government official and police in Aurangabad. 27 persons were detained and later released in the district, police said.

Additional police personnel were deployed in Aurangabad. The situation was tense but under control, they said. In Jalna, a group of people burnt a state transport bus and stoned three buses and two private vehicles at Aurangabad road.

The group also stoned two vehicle showrooms, and an office causing damage, police said.18 people were taken into custody and later released, police said.  Police personnel have been deployed at sensitive areas for prevention of any untoward incident, they said.

Madhya Pradesh police had on Sunday registered a criminal case against an unidentified person for posting pictures related to various religions in an objectionable and distorted manner on Facebook.
