C'garh govt to establish Farmers' Relief Fund

At present, besides the Centre's Bima Yojana, no other arrangements are available for farmers

The Chhattisgarh government has planned to establish a Farmers' Relief Fund with a view to help them during natural calamities and emergency situations, official sources said today.

The Chattisgarh state Agriculture Marketing and Distribution Board's 36th sitting has decided that the Farmers' Relief Fund will be established and a high level committee will also be set, they said.

There are almost 35 lakh farmer communities in the state.

"At present, besides the Centre's Bima Yojana, no other arrangements are available for farmers to help them in natural calamities and emergency situations," the state's Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu said.

For instituitng the fund, a committee will be set up which will inform the farmers about the kind of help that will be provided to them during emergency situations and a detailed report will be submitted to the managing committee, the minister said.

After the approval of the managing committee, the Farmers' Relief Fund will be established in the state.
