Vidarbha protagonists to observe black day on May 1

The Vidarbha Rajya Sangram Samiti, an all party forum spearheading separate Vidarbha movement, today reiterated its stand to observe Maharashtra Day as black day to protest its merger with Maharashtra on May 1, 1960.

When Maharashtra is celebrating its golden jubilee on its formation, the people of Vidarbha have decided to protest by waving black flags and boycott the official function held at district headquarters, former MPs Prakash Ambedkar and Jambuwantrao Dhote, told reporters, here today.

Ambedkar said a dhana programme has been organised at Variety Square and a motor-cycle rally will be held from Jhansi Rani square which will cover entire length and bredth of city before culminating at Varitey Square.

Both leaders flayed Maharashtra government for spending Rs 100 crores on golden jubilee celebration at a time when state was facing severe resource crunch and was in debts.
