The government has extended the tenure of Bharathi S. Sihag as chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of the state-owned iron ore miner NMDC by one month, effective from November 1.

Sihag, who is posted as special secretary in the steel ministry, has been holding the additional charge of CMD of NMDC since January 1 after the previous CMD Narendra Kothari retired on December 31, 2015.

In September, government headhunter Public Enterprises Selection Board had recommended Narendra Kumar Nanda's name for the post of CMD of NMDC.

PESB will send its recommendation to the department of public enterprises, which in turn will send it to the ministry of steel for consideration. The ministry after getting necessary clearances from CVC and other agencies will forward it to the appointments committee of the cabinet for approval.
