In a bid to ensure availability of doctors at community and primary health centres, the Uttar Pradesh Government today amended State Medical and Health Service Rules, 2004 making four year of rural stint mandatory for promotion of doctors.

"As per the new provision, all doctors, who will be appointed after December 1, 2010 would have to complete at least four year of rural posting for getting promotions," a senior government official said here.

The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati here.

It was also decided that if a doctor is posted at a community or primary health centre in a backward block for over two years, he/she would be also eligible for promotions.

The doctors posted as medical officers are promoted to senior Medical officers and consultants during the course of their service.
