Andhra Pradesh government has submitted proposals to the Centre for developing road network in seven Maoist-infested districts in the state.

The state government has sought Rs 1160 crore for developing 117 roads and constructing 26 bridges at a cost of Rs 446 crore in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts under Special Development Programme.

The Union Home Ministry has sent the proposals to the Planning Commission and the state government hopeful of getting it sanctioned soon, state Roads and Buildings Minister, G Aruna Kumari told reporters here today.

The Centre has already sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore to the state government for developing roads in Khammam district, bordering Chattisgarh, she said.

During 2009-10, the government has undertaken works like strengthening and repairs of 7,020 km long roads at a cost of Rs 1,880 crore.

Through A P Road Development Corporation, works have been carried out for 1184 km at a cost of Rs 308 crore, the minister said.

With funds from 13th Finance Commission, Rs 981 crore has been given for maintenance of bridges and roads.

The state has submitted estimates to the Centre for developing roads at a cost of Rs 700 crore during 2010-11. The government also wants 23 state roads to be recognised as National Highways, the minister added.
