Delhi Development Authority (DDA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Barcelona city council on Tuesday to cooperate in the fields of urban planning. 

As per the MoU, Barcelona City Council will help DDA in redevelopment of walled city and government properties in Delhi.

The agreement is an initiative of New Policy Initiatives and International Cooperation Cell (NPIIC) launched by the DDA in February 2009 on the directives of the lieutenant governor (LG) Tejendra Khanna. Among other things, the objective of NPIIC is to explore possibilities for international cooperation in urban planning.

“The agreement is in pursuance to the earlier visit of the Mayor of Barcelona when it was decided to cooperate between DDA which is responsible for development and redevelopment of Delhi as per Master Plan  and Barcelona which has done an outstanding work during Olympics,” the LG said.

As per the MoU, both the cities will exchange information and compare the initiatives leading to innovations in conservation of built heritage and urban redevelopment.   

Barcelona City Council will also assist DDA in developing organizational capacity for heritage management and undertaking schemes for development of heritage zone and archaeological parks.
