BJP demands Chauhan's sacking

Accuses Delhi CM of trying to protect tainted minister

PTI | March 4, 2011

Continuing its agitation, BJP today staged a demonstration here demanding sacking of PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan in the wake of Lokayukta's recommendation for his removal from the Delhi Cabinet.

Scores of BJP workers gathered near the AICC headquarters at 24 Akbar Road to protest against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's "inaction" in honouring the recommendation of the city Lokayukta.

"Dikshit is trying to protect Chauhan disregarding the recommendation of the Lokayukta. We will continue our agitation till he is removed from the post," city BJP president Vijender Gupta said addressing the gathering.

In an unprecedented order, the Delhi Lokayukta had last week recommended sacking of Chauhan from the Cabinet for trying to protect a leading resort in a tax evasion case, holding him guilty of "misconduct" of "grave nature".

The city BJP has launched an agitation demanding removal of the minister from Delhi Cabinet.
