The CBI has sent former telecom minister A Raja a notice asking him to appear before it for a detailed questioning as a part of its 2G probe. Raja is likely to appear before it in Delhi on Wednesday at 9.30 a.m. along with his legal counsel.

The former minister and DMK leader was in Chennai and is expected to get to Delhi on Monday. The notice was recived at his 2 A Moti Lal Nehru Marg address in Delhi and his Chennai home, signed by an investigating officer.

Similar notices have been sent to others including corporate lobbyist Niira Radia while her close associate and former Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Pradip Baijal was being questioned by the CBI sleuths today, official sources said.

Baijal, a former Disinvestment Secretary, belonged to the 1966 batch of IAS from Madhya Pradesh cadre.

The premises of Raja, Baijal and Radia were searched by the CBI earlier this month in connection with the case.

Former Telecom Minister A Raja today said that he was not afraid of CBI and will cooperate with the agency which has summoned him for questioning in connection with the 2G scam.

"I am not afraid of CBI.I am a lawyer. As a lawyer, I will abide by the law. I will not evade the law," Raja told reporters here.
Dismissing as "rubbish" reports that he had applied for anticipatory bail, he said, "I am not an accused and there is no question of my applying for an anticipatory bail".

Maintaining that he has been cooperating with the CBI in its probe, he said, "CBI knows that Raja had been extending co-operation to it.I am a lawyer and I know what is law."

The CBI has sent a notice to Raja to appear before it for questioning in connection with the scam as also others including corporate lobbyist Niira Radia.

Raja was served notice at his residence to appear before the agency for questioning.

''2G spectrum scam did not bring disrepute to DMK''

Putting up a brave front, DMK today asserted that the 2G Spectrum scam did not bring any disrepute to the party and CBI summoning former Telecom Minister A Raja was nothing extraordinary.

"The scam has not brought any disrepute to the party," Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told reporters here.

To a query on CBI summoning Raja for questioning, the DMK patriarch said it was an "usual practice and nothing extraordinary."

When asked whether the scam had distanced the Congress from DMK, a key UPA ally, Karunanidhi said, "Nobody can cut the relationship between both the parties."

"Our self-respect movement has grown and overcome all such things in the past," he added.
