As the Noida police failed to make any arrest in the case a week after a man was assaulted for filming the sub registrar office staff taking bribe for registering his marriage, the victim has taken recourse to social networking.

Gaurav Bakshi, the India representative of a USA based multinational company Vitamix Corporation, was beaten up by goons at the marriage registration office of Noida allegedly on the behest of sub registrar RK Gautam when he tried filming one of the staffs taking bribe.

With no substantial progress in the investigation, Bakshi has decided to simultaneously take recourse to the social networking to garner support for the cause of corruption free system.

Choosna Bandh Campaign! Fight Corruption! Act NOW is what he calls his Facebook (FB) page and the support that is pouring in from people across the social spectrum is encouraging.

In just three days almost five hundred people have joined his FB page announcing their support.

Bakshi has already met the Gautam Budh Nagar (NOIDA) senior superintendant of police (SSP) and the district magistrate (DM) with a letter of complaint- a copy of which is with Governance Now – and also written to the Chief Minister and Governor of Uttar Pradesh asking them to help him get justice and effectively address the larger issue of corruption by public servants in the state.

Meanwhile, DIG (stamp) who was to submit an investigation report on the matter Friday could not do so on the account of not being able to reach Bakshi for his contentions.

The victim’s father in whose name the FIR was registered however said neither he nor any member of his family has yet been contacted by the DIG (stamp) or any of his officials for their version. “It is unfortunate that we are getting to know about the investigations from the media while despite consistent follow up with the police, no one has so far bothered to keep us informed, “ Bakshi said.

Reportedly a few bar members at the registrar’s office have threatened agitations if the accused registrar RK Gautam is arrested.

The FIR has been registered under sections 323, 392 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code that notably pertains to causing hurt voluntarily, robbery and criminal intimidation respectively and ideally involves immediate arrests. When GovernanceNow spoke to Sub inspector Mahesh Chandra Sharma of the sector 24 police station who is the investigating officer in the case and asked him the status of the matter, he said, “I am conducting my inquiry and as and when I gather substantial evidence, I will do the needful.”
