After running a week-long campaign to clean up some ghats of Yamuna, the Art of Living, an NGO founded by spiritual guru Ravi Shankar, is planning to engage corporates in the cause.

“We had a lot of corporate partners during the campaign who would like to engage with the cleaning process even further,” said Rashmi Paliwal, the convener of ‘Meri Dilli, Meri Yamuna’ campaign which ran from March 18 to 24.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), for example, was so excited about the cleaning up that it had come out with a drawing of the ITO ghat and how it would look once cleaned, she said.

“There are four ghats which are really doable: Kudesia, ITO, Kalindi Kunj and Okhla.”

Corporate involvement, however, would comply with government regulations, she said.

“Even if corporates want to take up cleaning, we need to figure out what the official government procedure for it is.”

The Art of Living was also in talks with Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and councillors to devise a method for regular monitoring of the banks.

“Our short term goal is to landscape the ghats and make them green and beautiful, but there is scope to do a lot more, like embankments, in the future,” added Paliwal.

And at a time when even the thought of a picnic on the bank of Yamuna makes your nose twitch in disgust, the Art of Living is planning a musical evening on 13th of May on one of the ghats.

“We are considering either Kudesia or Kalindi Kunj ghat for this evening. That will also contribute to the cleaning cup campaign.”
