The Delhi Police has been asked to speed up its inquiry into the alleged cash-for-vote scam in 2008 and may question senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley and former party activist Sudheendra Kulkarni in this connection.

Sources said the Delhi Police has started issuing notices to a few persons for questioning in connection with the alleged cash-for-vote scam.

The action comes following the Home Ministry asking the Delhi Police to speed up the investigation after Siddharth Gautam, a journalist who was CNN-IBN when a sting operation was done during the 2008 trust vote in Lok Sabha, gave a statement to police.

The sources said some others will also be called for questioning.

Yesterday in Rajya Sabha, Home Minister P Chidambaram had referred to some "unexpected turn of events" in the investigation and said the Delhi Police would also examine whether a particular party had "engineered" and "manufactured" the sting operation to destabilise an incumbent government in 2008.

He said journalists of CNN-IBN news channel, which carried out the sting operation have been examined.

Siddhartha Gautam, one of these journalists, who had left the country, has now made the statement.

"CNN-IBN has also been requested to facilitate recording of the statement of Gautam," he had said.

Further investigations, which will include sitting Lok Sabha members, would be done, he said.
