Government allots Rs 100 crore for development of Ladakh

The centre on Monday allocated Rs 100 crore for Ladakh region for implementation of various projects identified by a taskforce.

The special taskforce for development of Ladakh, headed by Narendra Jadhav, planning commission member, has submitted a report to the government in January identifying projects that could be implemented in a period two years.

The Jadhav committee report had identified projects worth Rs 416 crore. Among the projects recommended include construction of culverts, small bridges and roads connecting remote villages and hamlets in the region.
In the budget presented on Monday, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee announced Rs 100 crore for various projects suggested by the Jadhav committee.

The decision on forming of three task forces was taken at a meeting of the cabinet committee on security headed by prime minister Manmohan Singh on September 25 last year.
