The department of telecommunication (DoT) is trying all tricks in the book to come out clean in the the 2G spectrum scandal.

It has evaded a clear response to the RTI query seeking details of the 2G spectrum cases being heard by the supreme court.

In his RTI application dated October 1, Delhi-based social activist Subhash Agrawal had asked the prime minister’s office (PMO) if it was aware that a case on the 2G spectrum issue was being heard by the apex court. The applicant also asked names of parties to the suit and if union minister A Raja  had been named as a party, in his personal capacity or as the union telecommunications minister.

The PMO had directed the RTI query to DoT.

However, DoT wrote back to the PMO that “It is observed that no specific court case has been mentioned for which the information has been sought...as information asked vide pint no (1) pertains to the PMO, further information, if any, can be provided by this office only after the information furnished by PMO.”

In other words, the DoT would not be able to provide any information about the case unless the PMO said whether it was aware of the case or not.

Interestingly, the PMO replied the same day saying that it was aware of the matter relating to allotment of 2G spectrum was before the supreme court.
