Flower power for Jammu and Kashmir

State will develop flower farming along commercial lines

PTI | June 3, 2010

The Jammu and Kashmir government will develop flower farming in the state on commercial lines to tap the growing demand for cut flowers, minister for horticulture and floriculture Sham Lal Sharma said today.

Sharma said the Valley's cool climate is apt for cultivating flowers all through the year and the floriculture department will expand its activities to the block level to harness the state's potential.

The minister directed the department to carry out campaigns across the Valley and generate farmer interest in flower cultivation.

Sharma said the floriculture department, which has so far remained neglected, will now receive special attention and the focus will be to turn it into a revenue generating unit for the state.
