Government begins 2G clean-up

Show-cause notice sent to 85 companies

GN Bureau | November 29, 2010

The government on Monday moved to clear some of the 2G muck by sending showcause notices to 85 of the 122 companies which got 2G spectrum licences despite being inelligible for the allocation. Telecom minister Kapil Sibal informed the press that the government had found these companies to have violated the memorandum of association and would be liable for action if any charges were brought against them.

Sibal also warned that action would also be taken if Swan, as alleged, turned out to be front company for some of the telecom service providers.
