Social security platform to accurately target beneficiaries

In his budget speech in the Lok Sabha, finance minister Arun Jaitley said that as part of the 'minimum government and maximum governance' framework, the government would introduce a bill on targeted delivery of financial and other subsidies, benefits and services aka Aadhaar bill.

The government also proposed to set up a social security platform using Aadhaar to accurately target beneficiaries. Jaitely said that the direct benefit transfer (DBT) is proposed to be introduced on pilot basis for fertilizers in a few districts across the country. Also, of the 5.35 lakh fair price shops (FPS) in the country, automation facilities will be provided in 3 lakh FPSs by March 2017.
