The guidelines for grid-connected solar power projects in India will be out on July 25, 2010, B Bhargava, the director of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) told Governance Now. “They will be jointly released by the new and renewable energy minister and the power minister,” he added.

He said that the solar power developers would be benefitted as they will be able to apply to NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) once the guidelines were announced. “The guidelines are a boost for the developers as previously, they had to make do with either smaller capacity or lower tariff, but now that will change,” Bhargava added.

The tariff for solar photovoltaic is Rs 17.91 per unit while that for solar thermal is Rs 15.31 for a unit.

The guidelines for off-grid and rooftop solar power plants were released on June 16. An official from the ministry of new and renewable energy had said that the subsidies had gone down under the guidelines released last month as the government would want the demand for solar to be market-driven.
