Taluka level courts would be set up in all the 225 blocks of the state during the golden jubilee year of Gujarat, chief minister Narendra Modi said here on Sunday.

"To ensure that every person gets justice through the legal system, the government would set up courts at taluka levels in all 225 blocks of the state during the golden jubilee year of the state," Modi said at a function organised in the Gujarat high court campus to observe the 50 years of the Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG).

Addressing lawyers from across the state, Modi added that there was need to strengthen the legal system so that people get speedy justice. He added that the government has already set up institutes like the National Law University and Forensic Science University which would complement the legal system and provide the required human resources.

"This government understands its responsibility and therefore the budget for legal infrastructure in the state has reached Rs 425 crore," Modi said.

The chief minister further announced that an e-library would be set up for all bar associations at taluka levels.

However, justice K S Radhakrishnan of the supreme court and Gujarat high court chief justice S J Mukhopadhaya who were supposed to share the dais with Modi were not present at the function.

"Justice Radahakrishnan had intimated us through a letter three days ago that he would not be able to attend the function. Also, Justice Mukhopadhaya due to some unavoidable circumstances could not make it to the function. Both justices have though sent their written messages," BCG chairman J J Patel said.

Over 3500 lawyers representing all the bar associations in the state, attended the function which was held in the Gujarat high court campus.
