Jagan Reddy moves SC against disproportionate assets probe

Reddy says "politically motivated" Congress using CBI and courts to get back at him

GN Bureau | July 19, 2011

Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Y S Rajasekara Reddy, has moved the supreme court seeking a stay on the CBI probe into assets disporportionate to his known income.

Challenging a state high court order, Reddy says that the Congress party is abusing its power (the party is ruling both at the centre and in the state) to harrass him and his family.

In the petition Reddy has accused the Congress of using courts as forum to settle political scores and engage in political rivalry. He says that the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are both scared of his rising popularity.

He has also accused Andhra chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of filing a politically motivated petition which has led to the CBI probe against him. He also claims that there are no FIRs or criminal complaints registered against him.
