Jharkhand govt refuses to handover JPSC scam case to CBI

Case being investigated by state vigilance bureau

PTI | December 21, 2011

The Jharkhand government on Tuesday refused to hand over to CBI the case of alleged irregularities in conducting the second Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination.

Replying to a query of Congress MLA Bana Gupta during question hour in the house, HRD minister Baijnath Ram said it was not necessary to hand over the matter to the central investigative agency as it was being probed by the state vigilance bureau.

He also stated that shortage of manpower in the vigilance bureau had not affected its investigation.

In July 24, 2009, a total of 19 officials had been dismissed during president's rule in connection with the alleged merit scam during the second civil services examination conducted by the JPSC.

The high court ordered to re-instate eleven of them earlier this year.

Former senior members of the JPSC were arrested by the vigilance sleuth after an FIR was filed on June 13, 2010 in connection with the scam.
