Aiming at an efficient management of traffic in the state capital, the Jammu and Kashmir government today said it would constitute an Urban Metro Transport Authority.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by minister for Transport, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Qamar Ali Akhoon.

The Transport Plan of the city would be submitted to the Centre within a week-time for its approval, Akhoon said.

Stressed the need for construction of more parking places in the state, the minister said multi-tier parking complex is proposed under Public-Private Partnership mode at general bus stand in Jammu.

Installation of traffic signals in Srinagar and Jammu cities were also discussed in the meeting, he said.

To avoid accidents, the authorities of roads and buildings and border roads organisation were asked to install sign boards at curves, speed breakers, zebra crossings, up and down slopes on various roads across the state, officials said.
