"In which direction I have to go for Rang Mahal in Lal Quila, what other attractions are there in Qutub Minar and what is the significance of Purana Quila?" For all these questions visitors will not have to depend on tourist guides. Come the Commonwealth Games and all these information will be provided on tourists’ cell phones.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the Delhi tourism department is planning to introduce mobile audio guides. Under the system the tourism department will set up helpline and some codes will be given on historical monuments of the city. By accessing the monument code a tourist can easily get all the information about the particular monument on their cell phone. The helpline number will be displayed at all the tourist destinations and public places. “As the work is in its nascent stage we have yet not decided whether the service will be free or there will be some nominal charge,” said a senior officer from Delhi Tourism Development Corporation.

Further, the tourism department is planning a system in which a visitor after landing at the airport will be able to get all the vital information about the city on the cell phone -- provided the phone has camera. What the visitor has to do is just to go near a particular booth at the airport and his cell phone will show the required information about Delhi’s hotels, stadiums, cultural centres, shopping places and other important destinations. “This system will function just like bluetooth in our mobile does,” said the officer, adding that these works are expected to be completed by June.
