There is no respite to the farmers who defaulted in repaying loan from the co-operative banks and Land Development Banks (LDB) in the most affected farmer suicide areas in Vidarbha region.

The borrowers from the LDB in the state will get respite as the Maharashtra government has decided to defer strong action against defaulters by giving them eight more months to repay the dues is dried up.

The Cooperative Secretary Sudhir Goyal who had earlier served in the affected area in Vidarbha has convinced the administrator of LDB Subhash Mane. Accordingly Co-operative and Marketing Minister Harshvardhan Patil has issued fresh order of forcible recovery, now in different style of Gandhigiri by beating drum, before the house of short listed willful defaulters, The Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti president Kishore Tiwari said today.

"This is totally contradictory to the announcement of co-operation and marketing Harshvardhan Patil in Mumbai that the one-time settlement (OTS) will now be available till next March 31 and uncalled for as this will lead to auction the land mortgaged with LDB against the term loans and thus dispose the farmers of land," Tiwari said in a press release issued here today.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan should intervene to stop this forcible recovery as this is not the time even if farmers want to repay the loan under OTS, he said.

"VJAS has no objection on regular recovery but objected action of seizure of land and forcible recovery now recent letter issued by LDB bank is much more serious as they have asked respective Bank manager to form team of bank employees...we will protest such action of recovery as the debt is disputed one needs to scan as per recent OTS orders," Tiwari added.
