Media imagined team's indiscretions: team manager

After T20 debacle, team manager Ranjib Biswal tries to do some damage control

PTI | May 14, 2010

he media is agog with sordid happenings in the West Indies involving the under-performing Indian squad, including a brawl with fans in a pub in St Lucia, but team manger Ranjib Biswal today termed the reports as its "imagination".

"No... nothing like that has happened. Its all media's imagination. You know how it is. One channel carries a story and others follow," Biswal told PTI on his return here with team physio Nitin Patel and a few players -- Ravindra Jadeja, R Vinay Kumar and Rohit Sharma after the team was eliminated from the Twenty20 World Cup.

Biswal, a former India under-19 captain and ex-Ranji Trophy skipper of Orissa, also flatly denied reports that coach Gary Kirsten had given a dressing down to the team members after their dismal display that led to the team's early flight home.

"Nothing of this sort happened. We were all together at the team hotel's swimming pool before departing for home," he said.

Reports have hinted that former South African opener Kirsten is unhappy with the fitness levels of several members of the team and was, in particular, miffed with Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma in this aspect.

India was knocked out of the T20 World Cup after losing all the Super Eight ties. As per norms, Biswal is to submit a tour report to the Cricket Board and said he will do it tomorrow.

"I will give the tour report to the Board tomorrow," said the cricketer-turned-administrator.
