Sticking to his promise of frequent interactions with the common masses, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has held an 'Awami Mulaqat' (meet the people), during which he interacted with scores of deputations here.

"Omar, who is holding the Awami Mulaqat every Sunday, met more than 2,000 individuals and heard their grievances," an official spokesman said.

The chief minister has recently been criticised for not being accesible to the people of the state and this factor was attributed to be one of the reasons for the four-month long unrest in the valley.

"Hundreds of people from various areas made a beeline at the chief minister's residence here to avail the opportunity of Awami Mulakat and vent their grievances," the spokesman said.

"From the day I took over as the chief minister of the State, I have advocated political addressing of political issues of Jammu and Kashmir in loud and clear voice. I stand by my promise to work in this direction and seek political resolution of the political issues as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Omar said.

The deputations from Magam, Tangmarg, Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara, Pattan, Srinagar, Anantnag, Pahalgam, Pulwama, Dooru, Kokernag, Bandipora, Ganderbal and other areas in their memoranda requested Omar to launch new schemes to upgrade and improve the basic amenities in the sectors of Roads and Buildings, water supply, power distribution, health, education, agriculture, horticulture and tourism.
