Panchayat allows same-gotra couple to live together

Not only does it allow them to live but also asks their parents to give them money to start their life together

In a diktat at variance with those given by many panchayats against youngsters marrying within the same sub-caste, a village panchayat has allowed such a couple to live together, but not in the same area.

Babloo and Gudia of Amargarh village, 70 km from here, had eloped 15 days ago fearing opposition to their relation from their families as they belong to the same gotra or sub-caste.

They were traced to Delhi and brought back to the village by their families so that the panchayat could punish them.

However, the panchayat allowed them to live together on the condition that they leave the village. It also directed their families to give them Rs 5,000 each.

The young couple left the village after receiving the money from their families and didnot disclose where they were going.
