The Chief Information Commission and the office of Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi have taken a step to ensure transparency in disposing of RTI cases. Both have put up the list of pending cases on its website from January this year.

The list contains the registration date of the complaint, complainant’s name, the department concerned and the status of the case.

The step has been taken to ensure that no case is missed from the hundreds that are heard every day and that there is more transparency in the system.

“We give decisions of almost 2000 cases every month, in between there have been times when there has been an appeal but it did not come for hearing.

We realized that 110 such cases were missed in 2010. But this list will ensure there is no miss from our side,” he said.

He adds, since this list has been put up, the office has received calls from people asking details about their cases which were not mentioned in the list.

“This will definitely help people to track the status of their case,” he adds.

The list has been just put up by the office of chief information commission and the office of Shailesh Gandhi but soon all the other information commissioners will follow. And the list will be updated every month.

Gandhi feels this should also be adopted by the judiciary system as it will benefit people.
