The prime minister's office (PMO) on Wednesday summoned solicitor general Gopal Subramanium and sought a briefing about the 'fiasco' in the Supreme Court on Tuesday during the hearing on Subramanian Swamy's petition on 2G scam. Concerned with negative media reports and alarmed at the regular sound bytes given by the petitioner, the PMO sought to understand the legal implications of the oral observations of the two-judge bench. The careful handling of the situation by the solicitor general in the court helped the government from an embarrassing situation of PMO getting a notice. Though there were two sides of the opinion that SG should not have intervened, and accepted that he was also appearing for the sanctioning authority that is PMO. But SG during his briefing explained the circumstances prevailed in the court and how he carfully handled the situation. if he had not intervened the apex court could have issued notice to PMO.
