Rape fallout? Several Delhi top officers transferred

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Chhaya Sharma, who was posted in south Delhi, has been transferred to Mizoram

GN Bureau | April 30, 2013

In a major reshuffle, several officers of Delhi police have been shifted, some of them given postings outside the national capital.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Chhaya Sharma, who was posted in south Delhi, has been transferred to Mizoram. She has been replaced by BS Jaiswal, a 2001 batch IPS officer who till date was DCP of outer district of Delhi. Sharma had taken over as DCP south district on March 2, 2011.Her husband Vivek Kishore, also an IPS officer and earlier posted in Delhi Police headquarters, has also been shifted to Mizoram.

DCP (east) Prabhakar meanwhile has been assigned the job of DCP (prime minister's security), replacing Ajay Kumar. Kumar, in turn, will take over as the east district DCP.

East district was recently in news as a five-year-old girl was raped and tortured, with the local police attempting to hush up the matter when the victim's kin approached the police to lodge a complaint.

Another officer, Sanjay Kumar, has also been transferred from the prime minister's security, now given the posting of additional commissioner of police in outer district.

All the transfers — the orders were issued on Monday — have been approved by lieutenant governor Tejendra Khanna.

But despite demands for Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar's resignation or transfer, including from chief Sheila Dikshit herself, in the wake of the December 16 gangrape and the recent rape and torture of the five-year-old, he will stay put for now.
