Remand extended for nine accused in Sonavane murder case

Police yet to arrest four named in the murder of Malegaon additional collector

Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court here has extended judicial remand of nine of the 11 accused in the murder case of additional collector Yashwant Sonavane to March 16.

They were produced before the court on Friday on expiry of their judicial remand given earlier.

Police had arrested 11 persons, including prime accused Popat Shinde, his two sons, and son-in-law in connection with burning alive of Additional Collector of Malegaon Yashwant Sonawane on January 25 when Sonawane noticed kerosene being adulterated near the dhaba of Popat Shinde. Shinde who was also burnt in the incident later died in a hospital.

Police yet to arrest four persons, including suspended police constable Jagan Pimple, police said.
